Galaxy Art Acrylic Pouring | Abstract Art Tutorial

Welcome to the new Violet Planet Pour – Mixed Media Abstract Art Video Tutorial. “Limitless” is a secret message for this abstract planet painting. As for the colors of this acrylic pour painting, I want them to make very, very strong contrast. The color combo of the base is going to be complementary but in the right proportion, and, of course, with the right design, it definitely has that space nebula feel.

I haven’t used this particular color combination for my planet pour paintings yet but I’m excited to give this galaxy art idea a go.

I will create this abstract painting on a 16 by 16 inches cradled wood panel.

Acrylic Pouring RECIPE used for today’s flow art painting:

Acrylic paint is mixed with water only to a fluid consistency. I add approximately 30-50% of water to my colors. There is no exact % or proportion because this ratio depends on initial paint viscosity, which significantly varies from brand to brand and even from color to color.

And as always for the planet pouring technique, I’m going to create a planet element first, and then I will work on the negative space around it. I want my planet to be with burgundy magenta colors, also I want to try a bit different technique for forming the design. So first, I want to use permanent magenta, then the mix of magenta, red violet, and some gray. Then I’m going to add ultramarine violet, a bit opaque color. Also, I want to have some brighter accents in this planet, so here is some mix of reds and oranges. For some contrast, I’m going to use a little bit of white and vibrant yellow-green color. I have prepared this color for the base, for the negative space around the planet, but I think would be nice to add maybe just a couple of drops to my planet. Let’s see how this planet pour painting idea turned out. Without further ado, let’s get started!

I love the outcome! Here this abstract artwork is all done and finished. Also, I covered this planet painting with a layer of epoxy resin. I usually do that for almost all of my galaxy and space inspired paintings. I think this color combination idea for galaxy acrylic pouring worked super cool. All the purple and violets, they make such a stunning magnifying contrast with the pops of green that I have in my negative space and also sort of as a reflection in the planet itself. And I think out of all the planets that I did, this one is the most vivid and dreamy at the same time. I also added some pigments into my epoxy resin finish, they look like little stars and they especially spark up as you can see against the light. I love this effect. I hope you enjoyed this acrylic pouring tutorial and looking forward to hearing from you! Happy creating!
