Acrylic Pouring 🌈

Black Base ~ Easy to Do Abstract Painting ~ Fluid art

This time I want to create a Dancing Criss-Cross Rainbow Acrylic Pouring! Rainbows are some of my most favorite topics when it comes to fluid painting. I have done rainbow flow on a black and white color split base, just on a white base, and today it’s time to try doing a beautiful rainbow on just a black base.

Today I’m working on a 12 by 24 cradled wood panel. I have taped the sides. So, because I’m working on wood – I prime it. And I like to tape the sides before the priming to keep that clean wood edge. I really love the combination of fluid acrylics and the natural beauty of wood. So after the pour painting is dry I remove the tape, keeping just raw wood sides and beautiful fluid painting finished with epoxy resin.

Acrylic Pouring RECIPE used for today’s flow art painting:

Acrylic paint is mixed with water only to a fluid consistency. I add approximately 30-50% of water to my colors. There is no exact % or proportion because this ratio depends on initial paint viscosity, which significantly varies from brand to brand and even from color to color.

This time I’m working with colors again mixed with water only. This has been my favorite mixture lately. It is simple but super effective. And the base is also mixed with water only. I like my base and the colors in the flow to be mixed the same exact way. I have been having so many abstract paintings lately with a gradient effect. And creating a pour painting with rainbow colors is also, of course, a gradient of some sort because colors of visible spectrum transition gradually one from another. And this time again I’m going to use the criss-cross technique to blow this out. But instead of adding colors in sort of chess order, I want to add them in one line and see how that’s gonna turn out. And yeah, without further ado let’s get started with this painting. Let’s go.

Adding the tape is the very first step that I do when prepping my cradled wood panels and removing the tape is the very last step. I do it after I finish fluid painting with the varnish or, like for this one, epoxy resin. This rainbow with a dark base… it has very mystical energy, yet it’s very uprising, happy, and cheerful. And see the fact that I had some colors initially, plus I added some white. It really helped my colors stand out even on a black base. Although they did dry darker and there is a lot more depth compared to just wet result. I actually like it better dry than wet.

Happy with this piece, that’s awesome! I hope you enjoyed the process and looking forward to hearing from you! Happy creating!
